Phoenix artist Sue Messmer has always had a creative project in the works for as long as she can remember.
“I used to help my father with his woodworking in the garage, and I was into all sorts of crafts as a kid,” said the creator of Glasu’s beautiful and unique fused-glass crosses, jewelry, plates and artwork.
It’s Sue’s eye for color and a constant search for new ways to express herself through her medium that led to Glasu’s beautiful pieces. “There’s no limit to color combinations,” she said. “I like to play around with colors that a lot of people may not think go together, just to see what happens.”
The colorful crosses have highlights of dichroic glass, which has a sparkly metalized finish. The crosses are made by layering glass pieces and then fusing them at high temperatures in a kiln – and no two are the same.
